It’s almost December!!! How soon is too soon to put up the Christmas tree? ..Asking for a friend. There’s just something about Christmas that possesses me to the point that I don’t even care if it’s blizzarding out there.
In other news, I recently saw this watchmojo video where they made a list of 10 books that never should have been made into books. To each their own opinion and all but I disagreed with the list so much that I felt compelled to write this post today! Today I’m going to be talking about —
. . .
7 Movies I liked Better Than the Book!
1. Cloud Atlas
Okay so Cloud Atlas is one of those cases where I saw the movie first and bought the book after because I was completely in love with the characters. Much to my dismay…everything was so different! My favorite couple from the film, Sonmi and Hae Joo, could barely even be called a romance in the book which made me so sad!
2. The Fault in Our Stars
Don’t hate me! I got The Fault in Out Stars right before the movie came out just to see what all the hype was about and it only took me a couple of days to read. But I have to admit…I was so relieved to see the whole Hazel-Looks-Just-Like-Augustus-Ex plot was taken out. I think just that tiny change took a mostly likeable Augustus from sorta creepy to a extremely romantic.
3. City of Bones
I know the Mortal Instruments series is HUGE and well beloved. I also know that fans are pretty split on the show vs movie. While I liked City of Bones as a book, I always had a soft spot for the movie because of Lily Collins. That is all. She was awesome as Clary and I personally LOVED the rest of the cast! It was basically all my favorite actors all in one movie so how could I not love that?
4. The Lovely Bones
Alice Sebold wrote a harrowing story about a young girl who’s murdered and caught in the in-between as she watches her family deal with her death and move on. I love Soarise Ronan and thought the movie was as gorgeously shot as it was hard to watch at times. Again, I immediately bought the book because I wanted more. I think the portrayal of the in-between was way better in the movie and just plain confusing in the book. On the flip side – I wish the movie had included more of the Susie (possessing Ruth) and Ray scenes because I always thought their ill-fated relationship was one of the best parts of the book.
5. Pride & Prejudice
Like most people, I ended up reading Pride & Prejudice as part of a college class and immediately, the tumultuous story of Lizzy and Darcy had me becoming a Jane Austen fan. However, this one made the list all thanks to the ending of the movie! I much preferred the intimate and romantic last kiss over the more prim and proper good-girl ending of the book and I also looved how Lizzy was a couple levels more fiery in the movie than she was in the book. Kiera Knightly took an already strong-willed character and made her that much more so.
6. Gossip Girl
Okay, I know, Gossip Girl is a TV show, not a movie. But, as it’s one of my favorite examples, I knew I had to include it. So back in school, I loved reading every IT Girl book by Cecily von Ziegesar that I could get my hands on. (If you never read IT Girl, it’s basically a spin-off of Gossip Girl featuring an old favorite from the former series, Jenny Humphrey.) Anyway, at the peak of Gossip Girl’s popularity, I decided to give the show a watch and even picked up a couple of the books. But for some reason, I just couldn’t for the life of me connect with the book’s characters as well as I could the shows.
7. Everything, Everything
Both are great but the ONLY reason I liked the movie more was because I felt like the book could drag on at times whereas the movie was straight to the point! I’m also not a fan of books with email/texts/drawings but that’s just a random preference and sadly…something I didn’t realize Everything, Everything had until I’d already bought it.
. . .
And that about wraps it up for me today!
What movies did you like better than the book? Agree with any on my list? Tell me in the comments down below! With that said,
Have an awesome weekend everyone <3
