I’m back 🙂
Today I’m coming at you with an all new post about the fiction tropes that I love!
I feel like the word Trope has such a negative annotation sometimes but let’s be real – there are a few tropes we can’t help but enjoy.
So without further ado, let’s get into some of my favourites!
. . .
8 Tropes in Fiction I Love!
Romance Starting Out As Witty Banter
Okay so I personally love shipping two characters who start off on different sides. All of that clever banter that’s meant to burn but actually just brings them closer together? Yes please.
The Forbidden Romance
Romeo and Juliet anyone? This is a trope I see in probably every second or third fiction but I’m a sucker for the whole ‘love conquering all’. If a couple can overcome their pestering families or some kind of adversity – then I’m there for it.
The Best Friends Who Are Strictly Platonic
Okay so the more that I hear ‘girls and boys can’t be just friends’, the more it makes me want to publish a book with characters defying that. One of my closest friends happens to be a guy and some of my favorite reads have been thanks to a close boy/girl friendship. One in particular I LOVED was in ‘Under the Never Sky’ by Veronica Rossi – the relationship between Roar and Aria was awesome!
I know that a lot of POVs can get annoying for some readers and I totally see why – sometimes I even agree. But there are some books out there that manage to do it exceptionally well! I think it works especially in adventures and in the thick of action, when the POV keeps switching to get every corner of that big battle. It’s one of the main reasons Neil Shustermans ‘Unwind’ series was awesome to me – so many characters, I loved it!
The Characters From Two Different Worlds
When a human and a vampire/demon/ghost/werewolf/etc get together, I kind of love it. I think it’s awesome when two very different characters find love – for instance the demon Roth and half demon-half-gargoyle Layla was an instant ship when I read Jennifer L Armentrout’s ‘White Hot Kiss’! Every scene between the two had me chanting ‘kiss, kiss, kiss!’
The Cute Nickname
Whenever a character calls another character some cute and witty nickname at the start of the book, you know it’s going to stick and become one of those endearing things between the two to show affection. In Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander, whenever Jaime called Claire ‘Sassenach’ (Outlander, in Gaelic) at the start of the series, it made me giggle and now it’s just butterfly-inducing and completely adorable!
The Found Family
You know that phrase ‘friends are the family you choose‘? Well when a group of unlikely heroes become that family, it never fails to make me grin. I love a group of survivors joining together and becoming a functional-dysfunctional family :p Six of Crows anyone?
Teasing A Romance
I am apologetically a hopeless romantic but also not a fan of insta-romance so when an author teases a romance and then reels it back in for a few more chapters. Romances are better the longer you have to wait in my opinion! :p
. . .
And those are all of my favorite fiction tropes! Do you have any favorites that you can’t get enough of? Let me know in the comments down below!
See you all soon! I have an awesome haul coming up 😉
