Heey everyone!
How goes it? It’s Monday, the day that literally no one wants to get out of bed xD
But on the plus side, another Monday also means it’s time for part 2 of my new Self-Love Series!
For today’s topic, I wanted to give you 5 ways to get workout-motivated! It’s such a huge part of my life, so I knew that with my new series going down a fitness post was a must.
I know the struggle of getting a workout in, especially with school or a busy work schedule. Life happens and then suddenly one missed day turns into 30. Buut I’m here to tell you that it’s not impossible to get back into a routine!
So without further ado – let’s get into some fitness motivation!
. . .
5 Ways to Get Workout-Motivated
Find The Workout For You
I think a major reason that people have trouble sticking with a workout is because they get in a rut doing something they don’t actually enjoy. For instance, I’d never pay for a gym membership because I know my anxiety would kick in if I tried to force myself into a crowded and busy gym to lift weights. On the other hand, some people love going to the gym. The really awesome thing with working out is that there is no ‘right’ workout that for everyone. We’re all different. I personally love having my own set-up at home and have been addicted to Blogilates for the past 4 years. And lately, I’m also loving switching up my regular cardio with dance on Youtube’s The Fitness Marshall.
“The best workout for you is the one that makes you smile.” – Cassey Ho
Besides doing at-home stuff, I try to either go for a run or bike 1-4 times a week in the summer and really love soccer and tennis. After having my first taste of archery this past month for my birthday, my boyfriend and I have talked about getting a membership for that place as well so really looking forward to that. In short, a good workout should be one that gets you excited – not one you dread.
Workout With A Friend!
Sweating it out next to your best friend or significant other is a great way to make sure you always have someone telling you that you got this. Though my boyfriend and I have pretty different workout regimes, it’s always fun to either do our own stuff side by side or try each others routine. He’s tried pop pilates with me a handful of times and I’ve done his weight-lifting routines with him spotting me. We even took a couple gym classes together in college and it was a lot of fun 🙂
“If at first you don’t succeed, fix your pony tail and try again.”
This summer, I even started to teach my mom the basics of pilates and it was so cool to see my mom getting into fitness because it had been something she’d loved dancing back in school and had been wanting to pick it up again. Fitness has no age limit and there are always variations no matter what level you’re at. Having a friend by your side makes any fitness journey ten times more fun and easier!
Workout to Music That Makes You Happy
Music can usually break or make a workout for me. I love listening to something that has a really catchy and upbeat rhythm or if it’s a slow song, it should have motivating lyrics. For instance, even though I’m not a fan of American pop, one of the reasons I love Blogilates so much is because it’s quick and fast-paced just like the tempo of the pop music she works out to.
Some of my favorite songs to workout to lately are:
Dramarama – Monsta X
Still of the Night – Whitesnake
My My My – Troye Sivan
Enjoy the Silence – Anberlin
Epilogue: Young Forever – BTS
Add it Up – Violent Femmes
Take Me Now – FTIsland
Cypher 3 – BTS
Treat Yourself To Gear That Motivates You!
I’ve heard so many people say that the easiest way for them to ensure they workout is to literally wake up and change into their workout clothes right off the bat. Gear might not be a big motivator for some people and that’s totally fine, but honestly I love shopping for fitness clothes – probably because my style is mainly athleisure.
Getting those really pretty leggings or the new running shoes I’ve had my eye on for some time is a good way to look forward to my next workout. Also, the more you get into working out, the more stuff you’ll end up accumulating – whether it’s weights or mats, clothes or other equipment. I splurge on a good quality mat and shoes now because I’ve gotten more and more serious about the lifestyle.
Workout For The Right Reasons
This last point is a simple one but probably the most important too. Ask yourself why you want to workout. Is the answer for someone other than yourself? Is it to get a ‘thigh gap’ or to look like that girl you saw on Tumblr? Society tells us we need to be a specific size or else we’d better do something drastic stat and that sort of brainwashing is so toxic and wrong. Workout because you want to be healthier. Workout to get stronger, not Skinnier.

That wraps up part 2 of my Self-Love series! I hope this post inspired you a little <3 When it comes to fitness, the world could really use more body positivity and less body shaming. Hope you all enjoyed the post and let me know in the comments down below what you thought! Have an awesome week everyone 🙂
Love these tips!
Thanks!! 🙂
Music is such a good motivator for me! I always put on something peppy and it gets me going 😀
I know right!? 🙂 I’m the same way
Hello Melissa! I love this post so much! I am a fan of Cassey and blogilates and I do her pilates videos from time to time. My favourites are her ab videos (which are so intense and awesome).
I agree whole-heartedly with finding an activity that we enjoy! Recently I’ve been doing a mix of running and pole dancing. I also love to listen to music when I work out, however, I’ve very recently started listening to audiobooks during my runs as well. So far it’s been a great experience since I get lost in the story and often forget that I am running 🙂
Thank you so much Sophie!! Cassey is great 😀 Pole-Dancing sounds so freaking cool, I wish we had classes here, I’ve heard it’s a really tough workout :p Audiobooks is a great idea! I use to use an app called Zombie Run and it was sooorta the same idea becuase when you ran, it alternated between a playlist from your music and a zombie apocalypse story :p thanks for reading! <3
Yes pole dancing is super fun and a great workout! I really do hope that you can get a chance to try it in the future 🙂
I tried zombie run before! The narration gets creepy at times (then again I think that is the point!!)
Finally, someone who understands and admits to gym anxiety – I will literally never get a membership because THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE IN THIS ROOM, and also the sweat. Like, no thanks. I would rather just take my dog for a walk.
LOL it’s a real struggle xD I took my college gym classes in the weight rooms and I looved the classes themselves but also me: caan i just take this class when everyones gone? 😅
These are fantastic tips, I really loved reading his post.
Thanks so much! 🙂
Can I just say how much I love this! I love the part about what is my motivation. I workout for myself. I want to be healthier and more fit. I don’t want pain in my joints. It’s so true about how you end up accumulating more gear as you get further in to it. I had like 1 pair of pants and a crappy sports bra. I ended up splurging and buying a ton of pants and bras. Changed my workout routine for the better!
Aww that means so much, thank you! 🙂 that’s really great and by far one of the best reasons to workout!
