Todays post is the start of my new segment I’ll be doing every Monday for the next few weeks – The Self-Love Series.
These posts are geared towards stopping, taking a time out and taking care of yourself mentally and physically. Both are equally important and you deserve to be your happiest!
Todays topic is all about stress-relief. Whether you’re feeling stressed out, under the weather or simply need a day to yourself, I wanted to share some tips today about how to get relaxed and press the reset button on a not so great day.
let’s get into it!

5 Ways To De-Stress
Go For A Walk
Whether you’re walking with purpose or wandering aimlessly, just enjoying the nature works wonders on stress. In the winters, my best friend Robyn and I use to walk to the skating rink every night after school and we’d skate for hours past dark and it really helped take our minds off whatever was going on at school.
In the summer, I also like to take bike rides to the waterfront, sit on a dock and take out my laptop or notebook. Sometimes you just want to be alone and the lap of the waves + the peace and quiet is wonderful!
Working out doesn’t have to mean go to the gym and bench press an obscene amount of pounds. Working out is about breaking a sweat and getting your blood pumping. When you do, it helps boost endorphin’s and therefore your mood! Personally, I’ve never been someone who likes going to the gym. But I always loved the feeling a game of soccer gave me on a particularly stressful night. It was both a distraction and a way to blow off steam. Also, doing Pop Pilates for the past 4 years has seriously helped to both make me stronger and help calm me down. I love the structured and graceful moves of pilates mixed with the quick upbeat music!
On another note, don’t be afraid to try something new! I’ve always been a huge fan of dance but alas…I have two left feet 😄 Even just the idea of trying to make myself dance was enough to make me shutter. Until I found The Fitness Marshall over on Youtube. It’s quick, easy fun cardio to the beat of all kinds of music. I was so pumped when I saw he did a couple to BTS!! Yes I mess up. But those moments where I actually get the choreography right are enough to make me feel like I conquered something awesome and that’s why I keep at it!
Maybe it’s the fact that I’m working with my hands or focused on getting the recipe right, but being in the kitchen always helps relax me.
I love these sugar cookies I found on Pinterest – the dough always turns out perfect and it’s a short and sweet recipe 😍 I heard someone say once that cooking is a good idea when you’re anxious because even if you’re unsure about something else going on in your life, you get results right away in the kitchen – and those results are yummy.
Have a Spa Day
This covers everything from literally treating yourself to the spa, to doing an at home face mask or drawing a bubble bath. Once a month, I like to go to my local spa for a facial which was just suppose to be a random treat back in July and something I didn’t expect to ever do again. My mom had just come out of the hospital, I’d just taken my learners permit test and let’s just say ‘stressed’ was an understatement. In the end, I ended up making it a monthly thing because I really started to see good results with my eczema and acne. Plus it’s something to look forward to when mid-month is starting to feel a little ‘meh’.
But besides that, a bubble bath is always a welcome thing. I never give myself as much time as I wish I did to read – but that’s a great time to lean back and enjoy it! The pic above shows some of my favourite products from Lush! I’m especially in love with that hair mask. I think it literally contains a dose of magic guys <3 there are also a ton of nifty DIY spa treatments online you can look up. I use to make homemade scrubs in high-school and it worked really well!!
Do Something You Never Give Yourself Time For
This last one might sound a bit broad but it really depends on what you like to do most. When you’re feeling stressed or anxious, throw yourself into a hobby you truly love.
Whether it’s giving yourself a time to finally read like I mentioned earlier, or doing something artsy like I am in the pic above, our hobbies are something we cherish for a reason. I’m personally not a great painter or drawer, but I easily get enveloped in both and love to work with water colors! I recently got some paints as a late birthday present and I’ve been taking an hour of my day everyday to sit down and work on something! using Youtube videos or inspiration from Pinterest, it’s been a lot of fun to just have fun and doodle 🙂
