While January 1st is usually the end of the festivities for most people, January 5th has always marked the end of the holiday season for my family and that’s because it’s my birthday!
I’m totally exhausted and full on cake and can’t wait to go pass out but for today’s post, I wanted to share with you guys what I did for my birthday! So before the sugar crash get’s too real, let’s get into what I did on my 22nd birthday!
. . .
Celebrating My 22nd Birthday!
Having a birthday during a Canadian winter can reeeally pose a challenge when it comes to trying to plan something fun and different and to tell you the truth, I can’t remember the last time I had decent weather on my birthday. But, being Canadian…you learn to live by the motto that if we dropped everything we were doing every-time the weather was crap, you’d basically be resigning yourself to live as a hermit.
Alas, today happened to be day 1 of a massive blizzard storm rolling into Montreal so the day got off to a bit of a rough start because we were worried I wouldn’t be able to make it downtown as planned.
My boyfriend, Robert, had been planning for months to take me for archery lessons because when he asked what I wanted this year, I admitted there wasn’t much I needed – howeveer, archery has been something I’ve wanted to try since I was 10.
Robert found this great little place called Sports Des Combats and booked us a beginner lesson for an affordable price and the instructor we had was so nice! He did a great job of showing us the ropes and telling us how to fix our errors without being hovering so we had the lane to ourselves for the most part while he shot his own spiffy looking bow next to us in case we had questions. He had super intimidating skills – but it was also encouraging because I totally want to get there one day!! The instructor even gave us an entire extra hour for free since they happened to not be busy today. Maaaybe braving the storm like crazy people worked in our favor in that case xD
We’re really eager to go back and probably sign up for a membership – maybe make it something we do once a week or every other week! It was such a fun experience, I can’t even tell you!! I like to think I did pretty good for my first time – and I’m even looking into getting my own bow so I can really throw myself into this sport! It was so frustrating / so hilarious at one point because our instructor blew up small balloons and pinned them to our bulleyes to help us practice our accuracy. I got like 4 bull-eyes in a row which was great, but kept getting ‘thiiis’ close to the balloon without actually popping it xD
They have other actives too like nerf war, knife/axe throwing and a couple other interesting things so it would be fun try one of those! Low key we miiight be planning a knife throwing Valentines date because we’re weird like that xD My parents are skeptical that makes the ‘romantic date night’ list but pfft xP
After archery, Robert and I had worked up an appetite so we had some dinner at our favorite smoke meat place called Dunns and then spend a good hour at Indigo – a giant book store! *Don’t tell anyone, but a haul might be coming soon!*
Once Robert and I parted ways for the night, my parents and best friend Robyn got together to give me a cake from my favorite bakery.
And overall, that was my birthday celebration!!
. . .
While the day might of had a rocky start thanks to the weather, today turned out to be such an awesome day!! I seriously can’t wrap my head around the fact that I’m officially 22 – it feels unreal. I’m so excited to see what the next years have in store – bring it on 2018, I’m ready!
Be ready for a book haul and a What I Got For My Birthday coming up soon! My girl friends are taking me out for Korean food on Sunday so by Monday I’ll be able to get that up 😀
