9 Movies I’ll Never Be Sick Of

Hey everyone!

So with the chill setting in and NaNoWriMo keeping me locked away in my bedroom, my routine outside of work has been something along the lines of this; get comfy, curl up, turn a movie on in the background and write until my eyes can no longer stay open. I figured a film-themed post would be fitting for this weather!

I’ve done a couple posts about TV Shows I love and one about some really great international shows/movies to check out, but I haven’t done a post specifically for films! So today, I wanted to share with you guys my favorite movies 🙂

They vary in genre but pretty much every movie on this last – besides being fun to watch – has a special place in my heart and influenced my writing in one way or another. So without further ado, let’s get into tonight’s post!

9 Movies I’ll Never Be Sick Of

Spirited Away

“During her family’s move to the suburbs, a sullen 10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches, and spirits, and where humans are changed into beasts.”

When I first saw it, I was the same age as Chihiro and just as hopelessly clumsy xD So as scary as the bathhouse and Yubaba was…I totally wanted to go on an adventure like her. Also, for anyone who’s seen it…that ‘train-tracks on the ocean’ is the coolest thing to me…it might even be my phone case xD It’s just so brilliantly outlandish.

“Selene, a vampire warrior, is entrenched in a conflict between vampires and werewolves, while falling in love with Michael, a human who is sought by werewolves for unknown reasons.”

I like to ignore anything past the third movie in the Underworld series…but the original movie is something I can watch over and over again! Selene and Michael, the vampire and hybrid, are one of my favorite OTPs. They’re a perfect balance for eachother – Selene being the badass warrior wanting vengeance for her family and Michael being the caring/sensitive doctor turned beast. I always liked how the relationship went from Selene hunting Michael down, all business-like (and maybe a little curiosity) to caring about his fate and not wanting him to be in danger. It was always so cool too to see a strong female heroine like Selene – plus the scene where Michael changes into a werewolf in the back of the cop car ALWAYS gets me pumped to write action scenes. The special effects are soo well done!

The Lost Boys

“After moving to a new town, two brothers discover that the area is a haven for vampires. Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It’s fun to be a vampire.”

This is still the #1 movie I need to watch every Halloween. The Lost Boys is a horror/teen movie from the 80’s. Even though by todays standards it’s super cheesy…I love it though! I wouldn’t say it’s a movie that inspired tons but for some reason I just really love watching it every time because it’s a fun, intense story with tons of epic vampire-hunting action :p

Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe

“During the World War II bombings of London, four English siblings are sent to a country house where they will be safe. One day Lucy (Georgie Henley) finds a wardrobe that transports her to a magical world called Narnia. After coming back, she soon returns to Narnia with her brothers, Peter (William Moseley) and Edmund (Skandar Keynes), and her sister, Susan (Anna Popplewell). There they join the magical lion, Aslan (Liam Neeson), in the fight against the evil White Witch, Jadis (Tilda Swinton).”

I love this story about 4 kids who tumble into a wardrobe, unknowingly falling into a secret world of magic and talking animals. I can watch the first Narnia movie hundreds of times without being sick of it. I think every kid wants to be one of these siblings – me included! Who wouldn’t want to go on an adventure where your destiny is to be queen or king? I love how rich and gorgeous the world of Narnia is how well written other characters are like Aslan and Thomas too!

Bridge To Terabithia

“The life of Jesse (Josh Hutcherson), an adolescent, changes when he befriends Leslie (AnnaSophia Robb), the class outsider. The children create an imaginary world called Terabithia, which is inhabited by all manner of magical creatures. Though difficulties fill their ordinary lives, Jesse and Leslie rule as king and queen in Terabithia. Soon one of the friends must draw on the strength of their imaginary kingdom to cope with a tragedy.”

This might be considered a kids movie but I watch it every now and then to remind myself how important being imaginative is. As Leslie always says…close your eyes and keep your mind wide open, right? Because as soon as the struggling Jess does that, things change drastically for him. It’s an emotional movie that gets me every time but the story of such a special friendship at such a young age is so heart-warming!! Also…I’m 1000% painting my future office gold just to be like Leslie’s parents xD

Peter Pan

“The Darling family children receive a visit from Peter Pan, who takes them to Never Never Land where an ongoing war with the evil Pirate Captain Hook is taking place.”

I think every generation should have their own Peter Pan tale – to me it’s a classic no kid should grow up without! My favorite version is hands down the 2003 one because it was everything I ever wanted from a fairytale – a young girl going on an adventure, falling for her first crush and facing everything from pirates to mermaids to the lost boys. It’s just a really crazy adventure and Wendy has always been one of my favorite heroines since she is always up to fight alongside Peter, but still wants to take care of him and crush on him. To me, even if it’s a fairytale, it’s such a cutely accurate look at what being in love as a kid is like (see Eleven and Mike from Stranger Things because are they not the cutest!?)

Safe Haven

“A young woman with a mysterious past lands in Southport, North Carolina where her bond with a widower forces her to confront the dark secret that haunts her.”

How could I not add a Nicholas Sparks movie in here? I looked forward to my yearly Valentines date at the movies thanks to this guy but Safe Haven is by far my favorite film! I love the actors chosen and their chemistry is on fire. Both characters go through horrible trauma before the events of the movie take place but the message that people can move on and people can be more than their past (at least, that’s what I took from it) is really beautiful! This movie just makes me smile so much while also being a good place to tackle tough subjects like domestic abuse and loss.

“The magically long-haired Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is.”

The only Disney movie on this list…my best friend showed me Tangled a few years ago and suddenly I was a kid all over again. Now I have to see every animated film that comes out – however Tangled is still my favorite xD I love it because it sorta breaks every ‘fairytale norm’ like how the hero is Flynn, a care-free thief rather than a knight and rather than a prim and proper princess fighting against marriage, we have Rapunzel who is cute, clumsy and trusting and just waiting to discover herself. I loved every line of this movie and don’t think any other animated film will beat it for me!

If I Stay

“Life changes in an instant for young Mia Hall after a car accident puts her in a coma. During an out-of-body experience, she must decide whether to wake up and live a life far different than she had imagined. The choice is hers if she can go on.”

I mean, of course this would be on my list right!? While also being one of my top favorite reads, everything about the movie is perfect. From the cast to being faithful to the book…as completely tragic and heart-wrenching as the story is, the movie is filled with some really sweet scenes, (to me atleast xD) on-point parenting skills and honest highs and lows of being in a relationship. Plus the soundtrack is amazing!! They did Gayle Forman proud.

. . .

Hope you guys found some binge-worthy movies to check out! That’s all for me tonight but let me know in the comments down below what you’re favorite movies are :p Have you seen any of the movies I talked about – what did you think? With that said..I’m gunna go pass out – Goodnight!!

      1. My roommate and I would have vampire movie night and 80’s movie night. Then it became shitty movie Saturday where everyone was introduced to the best of the worst movies: The Room.
